Chamisa Trail

11x14 Acrylic on Canvas
This was a mid-summer day on  the Chamisa trail, named for the sage colored plants in the foreground and a common native plant in New mexico. In the fall they bloom in bright yellow. You can see a small piece of   the trail in the bottom, left-hand corner.

Roses in a Fluted Vase

9x12  Acrylic on Canvas

I didn't realize again, until I started painting, how many challenges there were to this painting also. The flute is tall and narrow, hard to get that symmetry. The base is silver, and roses, well, I've never painted them. I have seen so many people try. I think they are almost a cliche. The challenge is to paint them loosely enough that they aren't artificial looking, but I think that's the challenge with any flower. I can't wait to try them again...........
