So far this is my favorite landscape. I really like looking back up a hill or a slope and seeing a dark line of trees set against the clouds and sky. It makes it look like the clouds are touching the earth.

Harvest time at Estrella del Norte

Here are a few pictures of Emily and me at the vineyard this weekend. Perfect day for picking grapes. I worked for the owners this spring and summer and that's how we ended up here for the Harvest Party.

View from Camel Rock

I'm going to insert a few landscapes that I did this summer while I'm finishing two new still life paintings. This one is pretty much a view from Camel Rock area with one of those beautiful stormy skies, and that rain you can see just before it hits the  ground. They call it "virga". I never heard that word before I came here and never really saw it before either. You can see it in this painting in the far left in the sky.

Still Life with Wildflowers

It took a long time to finish this small still life. It had a lot of challenges, the silver pitcher and reflections, the
lace detail and yellows seem more difficult to work with. I am happy with the results, and even though I have a really good camera, it looks so much better in real life.

I seem to take a lot of pictures at or near sunset when the light is most dramatic. Even then the photos never quite capture the drama and the color. That's where memory and imagination come in.....

Spectacular sunsets are a common occurance in New Mexico, but they never cease to amaze me. The light and color changes moment by moment. They are gone so quickly but the good thing is that there is always something awesome to see in the skies here.

This was such a peaceful, beautiful scene on the High Road to Taos near Truchas, New Mexico. The sun was high overhead and I loved the way the light shone on this white pony in the tall grass.
